MACKINAC BRIDGE WALK INFORMATION
Moveable Peace folks will walk the bridge together, wearing our tee shirts to show that Michigan can be a state for peace. The walk goes from St. Ignace to Mackinaw City on Monday, September 5.
Click here to download a map and a summary of the Moveable Peace Bridge Walk instructions.
Information for walkers
- Movable Peace Walkers will gather on the St. Ignace(north) side of the bridge and begin the walk together at 10:00 AM. No one will be permitted to start after 11:00 AM.
- We recommend arriving in Mackinaw City (the south side of the bridge and taking the $5 bus at the State Ferry Dock to the starting point on the north side of the bridge. Tickets go on sale and busses begin transporting walkers at 5:30 AM.
- Allow at least ½ hour for parking and walking to the State Ferry Dock.
- The wait for the bus and the crossing time will take up to two hours so plan to arrive in Mackinaw City which is why we recommend being at the bus no later than 7:00 AM. The wait increases with each passing hour as does the time involved in finding a place to park.
Information for nonwalkers
- People who do not plan to walk the bridge, but who still wish to participate should gather at the pedestrian exit to greet the Moveable Peace bridge walkers as they leave the bridge on Nicolet Street (see map). Someone will be there starting at 7:00 AM.
- Those wishing to collect signatures for the Michigan Peace Commission should bring clipboards and copies of the proposal (click here to read the proposal) and the petition (click here to download the petition).
