Peace Walk to Lansing
PUTTING OUR SOLES ON THE LINE FOR PEACE: GET INVOLVED IN THE PEACE WALK

Plans are being finalized for a multi-day Peace Walk from Detroit, Grand Rapids and Saginaw to Lansing as part of Moveable Peace 2011, a statewide initiative that has its roots in the U.S. Social Forum held in Detroit last June. The ten-day Detroit walk will begin on Saturday, July 30 and will include stops in cities and towns along the way where walkers will listen to Michigan citizens express their concerns about the state of our state. Evening programs that will focus on issues related to peace, justice, and sustainability are being planned and walkers will carry a “moveable” art space and writing center along with a small film library to share along the way. Our hope is that the walk will serve as a “Moveable Commons” where people can share their hopes and creative ideas for a more just and peaceful Michigan. Upon arriving in Lansing, the peace walkers will join others from the Moveable Peace community at the State Capitol where they will present petitions calling upon the state legislature to institute a Commission for Peace and Justice and participate in a lantern ceremony to observe Nagasaki Day, Aug, 9.
We need drivers, videographers, and photographers to help document the Peace Walk.
WE ALSO NEED DONATIONS OF POWER BARS, GAS CARDS, and SMALL DONATIONS TO HELP PAY FOR ART SUPPLIES, TEE SHIRTS, AND FILM LIBRARY THAT WE ARE TAKING ON THE ROAD.
